By 1965 that same property went by Highbaugh Farms, just before development began, though the Hert family had already coined the name Hurstbourne in 1915 after buying the estate. The city took up that estate name sixty-seven years later and became a home rule-class city within the Louisville Metro Government, plainly to prevent annexation by Louisville. So an address here carries a farm's name, a colonel's house, and a decision to stay separate.
