In 1924 James Buchanan Duke set up a foundation honouring his father Washington Duke to support Trinity College, which became Duke University. Parrish Street, meanwhile, held North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance and Mechanics and Farmers Bank and became known as Black Wall Street, one of the most significant concentrations of Black-owned business in the country. The old factories are offices and restaurants now.
